“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” Rom. 8:28 NKJV
Going From Eggs to Brownies
As I was making brownies the other day, it occurred to me how the recipe calls for ingredients that when eaten alone, do not taste good. I don’t know about you, but I am not interested in eating a raw egg. I am not going to eat a teaspoon of salt, or a stick of butter. There is nothing tantalizing about drinking vanilla extract or a cup of cooking oil. Every ingredient was something that you would NOT enjoy on its own. However, each ingredient is necessary to make brownies. In other words, they work together to produce a delicious outcome. In fact, were one ingredient left out, it would mess up the entire batch.
Isn’t it true that life also has moments that are a bit like trying to swallow raw eggs or drink a cup of oil? Not everything we go through is “tasty” or appealing. But is it possible that each of these moments are key ingredients to what God is “cooking” in your life? Is it possible they are each working together to produce a delicious outcome and taking you from eggs to brownies?
The Truth
The Truth is, every moment of your life is useful. Every hurt, every failure, every sickness, every “thing” is a crucial ingredient to what God is working in your life.
“Are you confident in this Truth?”
The first part of this verse says, “And we know that…” I must be honest and say that when I am amid eating raw eggs, I am not so confident that it’s going to end up smelling like brownies. I often doubt that anything good can come out of the yucky ingredients that are being mixed into my “bowl of life.” But the reality is, some of my worst seasons have produced some of the best outcomes. The raw eggs were necessary in producing what God has done in me and through me.
What is it that you are having a hard time swallowing right now?
What is the ingredient being added to your life that you are convinced cannot produce anything good?
Take a moment and choose to be confident that God is working all the ingredients together to accomplish His purpose for you and that in the end, you WILL have brownies
